Ready to swap shopping centres for snow-dusted squares, and overpriced mulled wine in a paper cup for the real deal served in a boot-shaped mug? Berlin’s Christmas markets are some of the most magical in Europe – the perfect mix of old-world charm, handmade craftwork, twinkling lights, and sausage stands as far as the eye can see.
With dozens of Weihnachtsmärkte (that’s “Christmas markets” for those of us who took French) across the city, each with its own twist, there’s something here for every kind of yuletide traveller. How about DJs blasting tunes while snow machines light up the sky? Sorted. Maybe candlelit stalls and Nutcracker vibes are more your speed? Done. Want to sip Feuerzangenbowle (look it up) under the shadow of a real honest-to-Santa palace? No problemo.
Here’s your 2025 guide to the very best of Berlin’s winter markets when you fly to Berlin from London Southend Airport this winter for as low as £21.99!
Gendarmenmarkt Christmas Market – Class, Candlelight and Craftsmanship
Dates: 24 November – 31 December 2025
This is Berlin’s Christmas market with its tux on.
Held in the elegant square between the Konzerthaus and the twin cathedrals of Gendarmenmarkt, this market has long been one of the most beloved in the city – and in 2025 it’s back at Bebelplatz (just around the corner) while restoration work continues. Don’t worry, it hasn’t lost a drop of charm. Picture white-roofed stalls glowing gold, classical musicians playing live under the stars, and the smell of roasted almonds in the air.
Come here for high-end gifts, artisan wares, and handmade decorations that won’t fall apart by Boxing Day. If you’re feeling indulgent, book a table at one of the gourmet tents and enjoy a three-course festive dinner with table service.
Don’t miss the chocolate-dipped fruit, the glassblowing demonstrations, and the enormous tree lit up like a jewellery box.
Gendarmenmarkt Christmas Market – Class, Candlelight and Craftsmanship
Dates: 25 November – 30 December 2025
Set against the backdrop of Berlin’s red town hall and just steps from the iconic TV Tower, this Christmas market feels like stepping into a snow globe.
Berliner Weihnachtszeit is full of charm, with a huge open-air ice rink circling a vintage carousel, a Ferris wheel giving panoramic views over Berlin’s frosty skyline, and cosy log cabins selling sausages, potato pancakes and steamy mugs of Glühwein. It’s perfect for families, couples, and anyone who wants their Christmas with a side of nostalgia.
Old-school East German touches give this market a retro flair – there’s even a small petting zoo with reindeer and sheep. And the best part? Santa flies through the air (yes, really) on a sleigh suspended above the square three times a day.

Weihnachtsmarkt at Charlottenburg Palace – Baroque and Beautiful
Dates: 26 November – 29 December 2025
For sheer atmosphere, nothing beats the setting of this market, held in front of the stunning 17th-century Charlottenburg Palace.
Imagine sipping warm spiced wine with the glow of the palace behind you, snowflakes drifting past rows of wooden huts, and classical music drifting through the trees. The organisers go big on lighting here – the palace is bathed in soft golden hues and the market glitters like a fairy-tale.
This one’s great for couples or anyone looking for a romantic winter escape. There are plenty of food stalls offering traditional German fare (think bratwurst, pretzels, and Schmalzkuchen – deep-fried dough bites dusted in sugar) plus a big focus on local handmade gifts and decor.
RAW Gelände – Berlin’s Alternative Christmas Market
Dates: 13 November – 22 December 2025
Had your fill of carols and candlelight? Head east for Berlin’s edgier side.
RAW Gelände is a former train depot turned cultural space in Friedrichshain, and its Christmas market is anything but traditional. Expect street food from all over the world, fire dancers, tattoo booths, hand-poked art, and alternative gift stalls selling things you won’t find in your local shopping centre. It’s Berlin’s cool kid of Christmas markets. And of course, there’s still mulled wine. It’s just probably served in a tin mug. Sick of the same old Christmas songs? The punk rock karaoke tent might be the place for you.
