- City break destination perfect for long weekends
London Southend Airport is celebrating another exciting milestone today after easyJet’s inaugural flight to Barcelona takes off – connecting local passengers directly to one of Europe’s most iconic city break destinations for the first time in five years.
Departing twice a week on Thursdays and Sundays, the new service mean holidaymakers can now swap grey skies for sunshine, and trade their daily commute for relaxing strolls along Marina Port Vell – just a short, hassle-free hop from home.
From Gaudí’s breathtaking Sagrada Família and the lively Las Ramblas, to tasty tapas and Tibidabo, Barcelona promises colour, culture and culinary delights, making it the perfect destination for a long weekend or last-minute city break escape.
Nigel Mayes, Business Development Director at London Southend Airport, said: “Today’s launch of easyJet’s Barcelona route marks another exciting step forward for our award-winning airport. We’re continuing to grow our network across Europe whilst delivering on the promise of easy, speedy, friendly travel, and can’t wait to welcome even more passengers through our doors this winter.”
For people travelling from Essex, London and East Anglia, the journey to Barcelona begins the moment they step onto the platform of London Southend Airport’s on-site train station – just 43 minutes from Stratford and 52 minutes from London Liverpool Street.
Barcelona joins an ever-expanding list of easyJet destinations from London Southend Airport, including the Canary Islands, Netherlands, and package holidays to North Africa, as well as ski routes such as Salzburg and Grenoble, launching December 6 and 14 respectively.
