London Southend Airport revealed as main sponsor for World Cup-on-Sea

London Southend Airport is proud to announce its participation as a main sponsor for the highly anticipated World Cup-on-Sea charity football event, which will raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children.

Organised by AJ Chambers, the 7-a-side football tournament will take place on Saturday, May 4, at the iconic Roots Hall stadium, home of Southend United FC, featuring 32 professional businesses from across Essex.

London Southend’s branding will be prominently displayed throughout the tournament, including a dedicated pitch quarter, alongside fellow sponsors Couno and LBH Insurance. Additionally, the award-winning airport will field its own team on the day.

2024 marks the 4th year of the event, which has become a staple in the local community, attracting teams from various sectors eager to showcase their skills and support a charitable cause.

World Cup-on-Sea is a significant fundraising effort for Great Ormond Street Hospital, with all proceeds from the 2024 event dedicated to supporting their invaluable work in paediatric care.

Last year, the tournament raised more than £39,000 for HARP homelessness charity; now, organisers AJ Chambers are hoping to raise £45,000 for Great Ormond Street.

AJ Chambers Operations Director, Jason Reynolds, said: “We are delighted to welcome London Southend Airport as a partner for World Cup-on-Sea this year, and extremely grateful for their generous support towards our fundraising goal for Great Ormond Street Hospital. We have a fantastic line-up of businesses competing in what should be the best World-Cup-on-Sea so far.”

Jo Marchetti, Corporate & Social Responsibility Manager at London Southend, said: “As we take to the field, both on and off the pitch, our airport team is ready to kick-start a winning campaign for Great Ormond Street Hospital. London Southend is aiming to score big for community welfare initiatives in 2024 and look forward to supporting further events across the east of London, Essex and South East England.”
