London Southend Airport signs Military Covenant

London Southend Airport has signed the Armed Forces Covenant demonstrating its support for the armed forces community. The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise by the nation ensuring that those who serve or who have served in the armed forces, and their families, are treated fairly.

Many of the airport’s employees, 86% of whom live in our communities, are ex-military or have a spouse or family member within the armed forces. The airport’s rich history dates back to the first World War and we continue from time to time to welcome military aircraft, including the Spitfire, the Hurricane and of course our famous resident Vulcan.

The Southend RAF Air Cadet Squadron 1312 is the largest in Essex and has been onsite at the airport for many years. They are a registered charity offering adventure for young people within the community, from flying, sports, target shooting to adventure training.

The airport is proud to pledge that together we acknowledge and understand that those who serve or who have served in the armed forces, and their families, should be treated with fairness and respect in the communities, economy and society they serve with their lives.

Glyn Jones, CEO of London Southend Airport, “The airport has been a member of the community from the first world war. Much has changed over the years, but we are keen to deliver on our commitment to bring benefits and opportunity. We pride ourselves in offering a diverse workplace and have 14 employees currently with a military background.”
