Sites to see in Antalya

Antalya is home to some incredible natural sites and feats of ancient civilisations. Whether you’re looking for winding old streets or a walk in the park, here’s what to look out for when you visit Antalya.

Kaleiçi (Old Town)

Step back through time as you wander through the narrow streets of Kaleiçi, Antalya’s beautiful, ancient Old Town. Don’t miss Hadrian’s Gate – built in honour of the Roman emperor when he visited in 130 CE. That’s the same emperor of Hadrian’s Wall fame. The man got around. Shame he was born just 1859 years too early to fly from London Southend Airport.

Düden Waterfall

Let’s face it. Some waterfalls are a little disappointing. Not so, Düden Waterfall! Get ready to be drenched in natural beauty… if you stand too close. This group of waterfalls cascade from the rocky cliffs of Antalya right into the Mediterranean, and are truly a sight to behold.

Antalya Archaeology Museum

The Antalya Archaeology Museum houses one of the most significant collections in all of Turkey. Admire the statues, mosaics, and ancient relics that trace the region’s many influences across its long history.

Aspendos Antique Theatre

Channel your inner gladiator at one of the best-preserved Roman theatres in the world. Located in Serik, this ancient site will have you imagining epic battles and dramatic performances. Are you not entertained?!

Karaalioglu Park

Want to get back in touch with nature? Take a leisurely stroll in Karaalioglu Park and enjoy great views and exotic flowers.

Places to eat and drink in Antalya

Hungry? At the crossroads of Europe and Asia, Turkey has some of the most diverse and delicious food in the world! Here are some of the places you can grab a bite to eat or a drink in Antalya during your stay.

The Big Man Konyaaltı

Have breakfast (or a cocktail) on a cliff at The Big Man Konyaaltı. The view is stunning, and the perfect place for an Instagram-worthy pic. Just don’t drop your toast.

Sade Meyhane in Lara

Experience a traditional Turkish meyhane with delicious wine, rakı, and mezes.

Barrels

Looking for cuisine a little closer to home? Barrels is a gastropub with both British and Turkish food, perfect for a casual night out and a beer after the beach.

The Dose

Coffee lovers, rejoice! The Dose is a must-visit cafe, known for its excellent espresso and other caffeinated creations. Prepare to be wowed by their brews.

Akra Barut Hotel Restaurant

Also overlooking the cliffs, this restaurant offers not just great food but also an amazing view. It’s the ideal place to practise your “contemplating life” look while enjoying a delicious meal.

Day trips from Antalya

There are loads of opportunities for a day trip from Antalya! Here are just a few of them, including ancient ruins and natural wonders you’ll never forget.

Kaş

Head to Kaş for some beach time at Hidayet Beach and dinner at Sempati Restaurant. Now that’s a day out!

Termessos

Visit Termessos, an ancient city perched on a mountain. This archaeological site gives you a fascinating glimpse into how people used to live in ancient Turkey.

Yanartaş

Take a tour to the eternally burning flames of Yanartaş, where fire erupts from the stone. This bizarre geographic feature is believed to be the Chimera of Homer’s Iliad, and sailors in ancient times would navigate by the light of the flames.

Phaselis

Drive an hour from Antalya to Phaselis, where you can swim and explore ancient ruins at the same time! What more could you want?

There’s so much to do in Antalya. Of course, when you’re done, you can always kick back on the beach and soak up the sun again. It’s your holiday! But between wonders of the ancient world and mouth watering modern Turkish cuisine, you’ll be spoiled for choice when you fly to Antalya with London Southend Airport.
