Malaga draws thousands of visitors every year for good reason. The region’s white sands and crystal-clear waters offer some of the best beach experiences on Spain’s Costa del Sol. But popularity comes with its downsides.
There’s nothing worse than waking up early to head to the beach, only to find that it’s already packed with everyone else who had the same idea. That’s why we’ve put together a list of the 5 secret beaches you need to visit if you’re flying out to Malaga with London Southend Airport.
Cala Barranco de Maro

Cala Barranco de Maro is just 20 metres wide. It doesn’t get much more hidden away than that! The beach is still open to the public, however. Although you’ll need to walk through a tunnel to get to this gorgeous spot between Nerja and Maro, it’s worth it for your own tiny slice of paradise.

Cala Torre del Pino

Cala Torre del Pino isn’t just one secret beach – it’s two! There are two separate coves, one of them only accessible by sea. Just a five-minute drive from Maro, these twin coves are the perfect secret escape.
La Caleta de Maro

La Caleta de Maro is famous for its role in the Spanish TV show Verano azul (Blue Summer), but it’s a secret to most tourists. Why? Despite being 400 metres long, the beach can only be accessed by crossing over some farmland and then descending some steep steps. It’s not for the faint of heart, but if you’re looking for a serene, secluded spot, it’s hard to beat.
Playa de Torrox

The coves of Maro are some of the most famous beaches in Malaga, but if you’re looking for peace and quiet (that’s 30 minutes closer to Malaga by car) then head to the Playa de Torrox instead. This hidden gem’s unforgettable clear waters give you plenty of space to relax and get the most of your holiday.
Playa Punta Chullera

Head nearer to the border between Malaga and Cadiz and you’ll find Punta Chullera, a beautiful beach boasting gleaming white sands against an awe-inspiring mountain backdrop. It’s a little further out of the way than some of the better known beaches in the area, but that has helped keep it a secret to many of the tourists heading into Malaga every year. That means you can get away from the crowds to one of the most beautiful beaches on the Costa del Sol.
We go on holiday to get away from it all. That’s what makes these beaches extra special. If you’re looking for a secluded locale to relax when you visit Malaga, head to one of these secret spots and beat the crowds.
